It's time for the 7th Annual WRNS/Marine Chevrolet Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon!
Over the last 7 years, Eastern North Carolina has helped us raise over $500,000, including last year's record breaking total of $114,558 in two days!!
This year, we want to beat that total...we're shooting for $125,000 for the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital!
We need your help to make this happen. First, pledge to become a Partner In Hope. By pledging just $20 a month, you will be helping to save the life of a child. All it takes to is pack a lunch once a week, and you've saved enough for your $20 pledge! ALL of your money goes directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's live saving work. It costs 1.8 Million Dollars a DAY to run the hospital and research center, and more than half of the money used comes from public donations, just like the Radiothon. We make a difference every year, and you can help make a difference every month!
Next, spread the word!! Tell all your friends, colleagues, family, church members, and anyone you know to donate! We will not be able to reach our goal this year without your help! Share it in email, Facebook, Twitter, text, word of mouth; however you want to spread the message!
In case you're not familiar with St. Jude, let us tell you why we are such big supporters of the hospital.
Kay Kafe inside St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was founded by the late Danny Thomas, who believed no child should be denied the chance to live because of race, religion, or financial placement. When he opened St. Jude, he vowed that no family would ever be turned away because of the family's inability to pay, and that still holds true today. No family that is treated at St. Jude ever receives a bill. St. Jude covers everything...from their treatments, to travel expenses, hotel or living accommodations for extended stays, plus they get a food allowance for the entire family. St. Jude understands that finding out your child has cancer is life-changing, and the last thing you want to think about is can I afford the treatment that could save my child. So they took the guess work out, covered all expenses, and allow the parents to concentrate on what's really important - their son or daughter.
St. Jude is more than just a hospital that treats children with cancer or other catastrophic diseases. They are the largest children's research facility in the world, researching things from cancers, to childhood AIDS and beyond. And with their "open-door policy," no child in the world will ever be denied the treatments discovered at St. Jude. They share all their plans and discoveries freely with the world, and have hospital partners in every state of America where the treatments are put to use to save children everywhere, including Pitt County Memorial, Duke, and UNC Chapel Hill.
St. Jude also thinks of things you may not associate with going to the hospital, like having tutors on hand so if possible, the children never fall behind on their school work and are able to pick up right where they left off. There are dentists staffed at the hospital to help with dental work needed that may result from treatments. And they don't forget about the siblings of the patients. There are special hang out rooms titled NO ADULTS ALLOWED specifically designed for certain ages along with special days like sibling day, so they know they are loved when their sibling is getting much of the attention.
It's more than a hospital, it's a place of hope. You can see it when you walk in the doors...and we need you to help us share the hope with all of Eastern North Carolina.
